Nationality - Definition

1) "That quality or character which arises from the fact of a person’s belonging to a nation or state. Nationality determines the political status of the individual, especially with reference to allegiance. . ." (Black’s Law Dictionary)

 

2) National - "Belonging to, affecting, or pertaining to, a particular nation: as, national domicil, the national government." (William C. Anderson, Dictionary of Law, 1889)

 

A nationality is a formal, legal relationship, most often acknowledged by documentation, between the person and the nation (state). This relationship gives a nation the right to protect a person from aggressive nations or entities.
