PERSON. "Persons in law are either natural or artificial. Natural persons are such as the God of nature formed us; artificial persons, such as are created and devised by human laws for the purposes of society and government — corporations or bodies politic, which derive their existence and powers from legislation." (John C. Anderson, A Dictionary of Law, 1889)

A natural person is the person you are familiar with --- the flesh and blood man or woman, you, your spouse, your child, your neighbor. . .the human being. A legal person, usually referenced in all capital letters, is created on paper, to allow for the interaction between the person and the public state. The artificial or “legal” person becomes part of the “public” if it agrees to accept those regulations of behavior adopted by the “public” to promote the “public welfare" in exchange for benefitting from that same or other “public welfare”.

William Todd Smith = the human being, the man, the spouse, the father
WILLIAM TODD SMITH = the legal entity or legal person

The natural person answers to his or her God, not to any man. The artificial or legal person answers to other artificial or legal persons, all as legal members of the society.
